I have seen a lot of different types of weddings in my career – intimate or huge ones, elegant or country, very simple, themed weddings… But I had never seen such an incredible wedding as Francesca and Tony’s!
When they contacted me more than a year ago telling me their idea for their wedding (an outdoor wedding with Alice in Wonderland as a theme) I frankly thought that it could either be awesome and unforgettable, or cheesy and incoherent. With such a crazy theme there couldn’t have been half measures!
During the months before the wedding, Francesca and Tony sent me tons of photos of their work in progress set-ups – yes, they actually found or created every single item of the wedding set up on their own! The teacups hanging from the Tea Party tree came from London, they hand-crafted the photobooth-cards, they created their own flamingo croquet…
At that point, I had no doubt: it had to be an incredible wedding, and I was not disappointed at all!
The location they chose was Villa Traverso Pedrina, a beautiful country villa in the fields of Veneto.
Francesca got ready in the Blue Suite of the villa, while Tony and their guests were having an aperitif in the garden.
The outdoor ceremony started as soon as Francesca went down the stairs of the Villa close to her dad – Tony didn’t know she would have worn a white wedding gown, and the emotion was visible!
The symbolic ceremony was really beautiful and heartfelt, but the most amazing thing of all happened just after the ceremony. After Francesca and Tony walked the aisle as a married couple, four actors in Alice-themed costumes came out of the villa, shouting “it’s late, Alice, it’s late!” and getting the party started! An Alice and a Mat Hatter on stilts, a White Rabbit on sky runners and a Queen of Hearts in all her majesty.
We had the couple photos in the villa itself – every corner of it is just awesome! – while the actor stayed with the guests among performances and magic tricks. But to relax a little before the picture, we had to try the Caterpillar’s hookah!
Also, the wedding dinner room was all set in a perfect Alice mood, with small centerpieces with a green liquid and a tag with “drink me” written on (it was just mint and water though!)
The friends gave the bride and a groom a crazy gift: a 70s Alfa Romeo red car, ready to be driven all around the villa!
After the dinner, it was up time for the amazing cutting of the cake (Alice-themed too, of course!) and it was followed by the even more amazing fire show of the Fire-Eater. Yes, there was a Fire-Eater at the wedding!
After the show, the party went on to the pool, with open bar and music up to late night.
This was undoubtedly one of the craziest, amazing, unforgettable wedding I had ever had the chance to photograph and I had the greatest time!
After the selection of images, you will find the Wedding Slideshow and the list of vendors who made this incredible wedding possible. Enjoy 🙂
